Module 6

I do like Bubbl.us - a very useful tool for mindmapping topic and key themes.

I created a mind map 'Using Web 2.0 tools to enhance learning'

Bubbl.us - effective way to create and manage notes.

I created one for Year 12 Geography on Ecosystems at Risk.

I tried using GLOGSTER... need more practice. I did a glogster for the Great Barrier Reef

Module 5

My Year 7 History class are currently learning about Contact and Colonisation - Aboriginals. To introduce the role of the Dreaming and dreaming stories I used the above clip about the Rainbow Serpent.

I use Youtube and teachertube quite frequently to find resources that would be useful in teaching Geography.

I mainly use vodcasts - these combine images and music to present content. This is definitely something I would love to learn how to do. I have a MacBook - would like to learn how to use iMovie - my Year 8 Geography students are fabulous at this. Below is an example a group of students made on Threatened Habitats. Technology is definitely a two way learning process.

I have used in Pacific Partnership 2010 video in Year 10 Geography class. The class have being learning about DEFENCE in a regional and global context:

Optional Challenge

I found the ABC podcast site fabulous - great podcasts already available to be used.

I have iTunes on my MacBook that i use to listen to music - just learnt how to download free podcasts - I downloaded Media Watch. I have also subscribed to received new ones -   I will search for Geography focused podcasts to use in my Senior classes
An issue i have is TIME... to create all these various things. I am a big fan of Keynote (Mac Presentation)

Module 4

Flickr a great tool but I feel it is better suited for personal items rather than school work etc... maybe good to use to upload photos from a Fieldwork (Geography) excursion or even photos related to specific topic. I've attached TWO photos that I have used in class:-
  •   Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico

  • Great Barrier Reef from Space

Many students learn more through visuals rather then the text.

A fabulous site for cartoons related to the politics, environment, sport and entertainment - inkcinct.

Copyright is a big issue... many people just google, copy and then paste (some who are unable to do this as some sites prevent you just print screen - I have seen students do this and even teach me how... ha ha). All images etc must be referenced and acknowledged.

Copyright is a serious issue... in class if students are asked to locate an image maybe recommened sites or search engines to use. Flickr clearly shows what can and cannot be used.

Optional Challenge

I uploaded the following photos to Flickr. My partner Tim is a Combat Engineer with the Australian Army and recently returned back from the Pacific Partnership 2010 Tour of Vietnam and Cambodia.

Module 3

Using Google Docs

To be honest until reviewing and completing Module 3 I did not know that Google Docs existed. It definitely reduces the need to manage various versions of ONE documents and reduce email management time.

A great way to share and collaborate over study notes and class content - once HSC trials are overs. Will arrange for my Year 12 Geography class to use Google Docs to collaborate their study notes. it also seems very simple to use and access. The notes in Atomic Learning were very straight forward and easy to follow.

It would even be suitable for junior classes. My Year 8 History class are learning how to draft the perfect PEEL response when using both a source and their own knowledge... good tool to generate a response as a class, where all are involved in editing (collaborating).

I spoke to my Mum about Google Docs and she said the corporate use it quite frequently for presentations to clients and business partners. It appears that this tool is very effective for both teaching and other professions as well.

Module 2

Extremely fascinating the Web 2.0 tools available to be used. So many tools and so many different ways of using them effectively. I quite often use You tube in class to show content.

I've included links below:-

- Mega Cities (Mega Problems)

My Year 11 Geography class about love watching Story about Stuff - stories. This cover many geographic and economic issues facing the world. It loks at stuff, cosmetics, bottled water and cap & trade.

The key thing that I have learned through reviewing Module 1 and 2 is the wide range of tools available to be used especially for GEOGRAPHY- my area of teaching. I want to investigate the use of Google Earth in Geography as well....

The current generation of students use these tools all the time for social interacting with family and friends. Using Web 2.0 tools will assist in the engagement and motivation of students.

Many students now have access to computers and even laptops in the class.

BLOGS - sharing of news is a two way street... appears quite simple and writing and pressing enter. Appears to good way to create study notes for senior classes. Will look at creating a blog for Year 12 Geography 2010/2011 (my current Year 11s)

Module 1

Hi I am Kimberley Correia from Holy Spirit College Lakemba.

I consider myself intermediate when it comes to using ICT in the classroom - love making Keynote presentations etc.. I am doing Web 2.0 to fine tune my current skill level in using Web tools and to learn news ways of incorporating  Web tools into my classes at school.

I found 25 Tools: A Toolbox for Learning Professionals 2009 absolutely fantastic to watch and read... i've heard many of the jargon listed but wasn't too sure about what they meant or did....

I am currently using NING for my Year 12 Geography class. An excellent way to have students look at websites and videos on You tube (great resource for short clips for Geography). Ning allows me to conduct forums, discussion and send/receive emails from 'stressed' HSC students.
You tube also a fabulous resource - Why Geography Matters!!!

Looking forward to the the Web 2.0 learning.

I've also created my blogger page and igoogle page... too many gadgets to pick from. The selection is fabulous.. so many great GEOGRAPHY gadgets that i can use specifically for my classes.

Cheers,

Kimberley
